RESEARCH PROJECT 01 - Quality of Life for Arab American Children & Adolescents with Intellectual Disabilities

Our current research project aims to study the quality of life in Arab American children and adolescents with intellectual disabilities compared to their non-disabled peers. We are conducting this study through the distribution of a IRB validated survey to parents and caregivers of students in the metro Detroit area. With the data we collect, we hope to raise awareness about the challenges students with disabilities may be facing in school. We plan to share this data with administrators and work together to determine actionable next steps that can be taken to ensure necessary accommodations are provided for all students with disabilities so that they can have the same opportunities as their peers.

Data collection for our first research project is now complete! The survey was open to all parents/caregivers of a child and/or adolescent between the ages of 5-17 with an intellectual disability. We are currently working on reviewing the data and publishing our first paper soon.
